Coaches Biography
Lance Waite is currently a Guidance Counselor at Princess Anne High School where he has worked for the past 18 years. He also has works as a Crisis Counselor at Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center. Lance and his wife Christel have lived in Virginia Beach since 1989. They have four children ages 11-17. Lance earned a B.A. in Psychology from Oral Roberts University and a M.A. in Counseling from Regent University. Before attending the University of Hawaii on a golf scholarship and competing in NCAA Golf tournaments as a freshman. Lance qualified and competed in 3 national junior golf tournaments. In 1982, he finished tied for 15th in San Diego Jr. World which is recognized as the U.S. Open for Junior Golf. Lance has coached a number of different sports for boys and girls. He coached Beach basketball for 1 season and girls softball for Hampton Roads Home School Sports for 6 years. He served as the Coordinator for the Junior Athletic Basketball Program at Sovereign Grace Church for boys and girls ages 8-11 for 4 seasons. Lance has taught the game of golf to many adults and children over the years. In 1991, he started the golf program at Atlantic Shores and coached for 7 years. In the summer of 2007, Lance began the golf program at Veritas Christian Academy and is looking forward to a third season of competitive high school golf. Lance is also looking forward to beginning the basketball program at VCA as the girl’s basketball coach.
Nancy Keating- She has been coaching Cross-Country and Track and Field teams since 1982. Nancy has founded several running programs/clubs during her 25+ years of coaching. She founded and served as Head Coach at StoneBridge School from 1991-2001. Since then, Nancy has served as assistant coach for cross-country, track and junior swimming. She was the girls’ Tennis Coach at StoneBridge for five seasons. During her coaching at StoneBridge School, Nancy was instrumental in producing the first state champion from SBS in Track and Field. (This athlete attended Liberty University on a full scholar/athletic scholarship and became an individual Conference Champion during his career at Liberty University).
Nancy was a six-time Virginia High School AA State Champion in Track and Field in the half-mile, mile and 2 mile. She attended The University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill on a full track scholarship. She held numerous school records and was the first female Tarheel to break the 5-minute barrier in the mile. Most recently, Nancy has been active in Masters USA Track and Field. In both 2006 and 2007, she received National and World Ranking status in the Women’s 800 and 1500 meter events for women 45-49 years old. She was National Runner-up in 2006 in the 800 and 1500 meters, which established her World Ranking as top 30 in the World for 2006 and 2007 in her respected age group.

Mark Keating has been coaching swimming from beginner level to nationally ranked swimmers for the past 30 plus years. He founded two USA swim clubs (Harvest Swim Club in Arizona and StoneBridge Swim Club in Chesapeake, VA) and coached an Oklahoma team, Swim Tulsa, where several swimmers received swimming scholarships at Division I universities. Most recently, he developed the StoneBridge School swim program that became a swimming power in the state of Virginia for Independent Schools in 2006 as Division II State Runner-ups and 2007, as Division II State Champions. Mark’s background includes: High School All American and a varsity letter recipient for swimming at The University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Throughout his years, Mark was coached by some of the most recognized names in the sport of swimming. Besides swimming for one of the most highly decorated coaches in the state of Michigan, Mark trained for two seasons under world-renown coach, Earnest Maglischo author of the bible on swimming, Swimming Even Faster. Mark comes from a wealthy background of swimming experience; he is one of eight children in which two of his brothers swam for the University of Southern California, and two swam for Michigan State University. In addition, Mark has worked as a tennis professional and coach at several clubs in the United Sates (Arizona, Oklahoma, Michigan, Virginia). Most recently, Mark was the head tennis professional at the Cavalier Golf & Yacht Club in Virginia Beach while attending Regent University. Prior to coming to Virginia , he and his 4 brothers formed Keating Brothers Tennis Academy in Birmingham, Michigan that ran for 20+ years producing a number of nationally-ranked and world-ranked tennis players. For the past 19 years, Mark founded and coached the boys and girls tennis teams at StoneBridge High School.

Extracurricular activities at Veritas Christian Academy are organized, school-sanctioned activities providing student participation and enrichment beyond the normal academic program. These activities generally begin in the Seventh Grade. Participation in these activities (which occur outside of regularly scheduled class time) is voluntary. Examples of extracurricular activities are student organizations and clubs, athletics, drama, special music groups, debate, etc. All extracurricular activities are intended to fall in line with the established philosophy, purpose and standards of Veritas Christian Academy, and are to be approved by the Headmaster.
Extracurricular activities at Veritas Academy shall remain within these guidelines. They shall in no way hamper or take away from the academic and curricular activities of the students. Students must have parental permission before they can be involved in any extracurricular activity, and must maintain a GPA above 2.0. A Veritas Academy staff member or Board member must be the coordinator of any extracurricular activity. If a qualified staff member or Board member cannot be found, a parent or adult may be a coach or coordinator. This person must be a Christian and an outstanding example of Christian character. If any funds are required to have an extracurricular activity, the families that are involved in the activity must pay for the participation of their children unless money is specifically budgeted for this activity.
