MUSIC APPRECIATION STUDENTS – upper school classes learn basic music theory and music history, which is essential in understanding the power that music has over a society. They also learn the essentials of songwriting or composition, and explore the world of instruments and their origins.
FIFTH AND SIXTH GRADE MUSIC STUDENTS – learn basic melody, rhythm, and harmony and are encouraged to demonstrate that understanding through several performances through the school year.
FOURTH GRADE MUSIC STUDENTS – learn how to play an instrument, the Recorder, which also requires them to read music on a treble staff.
THIRD GRADE MUSIC STUDENTS – learn to sing using proper vocal production, and continue learning music symbols, which will help them to read music.
FIRST AND SECOND GRADE STUDENTS – learn to keep a steady beat, learn what their voices can produce, and learn to keep rhythm using gross motor coordination skills.
KINDERGARTEN MUSIC STUDENTS – learn acceptable movement to music by using basic rhythm instruments, learn to listen for instruction and to respond to those instructions, and learn to vary their voices through melodic inflection.
EXTRA CURRICULA MUSIC:
- Recorder Orchestra -- Opportunities are available for soloists to perform vocally, or to perform instrumentally.
- This year’s musical theatre production will be MUSIC MAN JR.
- Last year ANNIE JR. was presented.
