Sean Elgut serves as the Headmaster and Anatomy & Physiology Teacher of Veritas. Mr. Elgut, along with his wife, Maria, founded Veritas Christian Academy as a Classical school with a vision to graduate young men and women leaders, who think clearly and listen carefully with discernment and understanding; who reason persuasively and articulate precisely; who are capable of evaluating their entire range of experience in the light of the Scriptures; and who do so with eagerness in joyful submission to God. Mr. Elgut holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from The State University of New York at Stony Brook, as well as a Master in Education degree from Regent University in Virginia Beach. He has been teaching, facilitating, and administering within the realm of Christian education since 1994. When not at Veritas, Mr. Elgut spends most of his time with his wife, Maria, and 5 children, Caleb, Anna, David, Abigail and Rebekah, all of which have attended, or continue to attend Veritas.
Maria Elgut co-founded Veritas, and serves as our Director of Grammar School (Lower School), as well as School Nurse. Mrs. Elgut holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She served as a Registered Charge Nurse before she began homeschooling her five children in 1996 up until her oldest son, Caleb, entered the seventh grade here at Veritas. Mrs. Elgut’s vision for Veritas, combined with her zeal for praying for families and students, has forwarded the vision of the school, to encourage all students (and parents) to evaluate their entire range of experience in light of the Scriptures…with eagerness in joyful submission to God.
Mark Keating serves as our Director of the Dialectic and Rhetoric School (Upper School), Athletics Director and teaches Senior Thesis. Upon graduating from The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill in 1980, Mr. Keating went to a Bible school in Oklahoma (1981-83) and two years later began to follow the call to Christian education. He began as a principal of a small K-12 Christian school in Arizona. After five successful years with that school, he left to pursue his Master’s Degree at Regent University here in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Upon receiving his degree, he became a founding principal of a Christian high school here in Chesapeake, VA. As principal of this new high school, he laid the foundation for the vision of the school, he taught from full-time to part-time, built the infrastructure of the school with its many departments: admissions, guidance, athletic, student government, student affairs and traditions, alumni, etc. In his 19 years with there, Mark witnessed the student body of 11 students grow to over 140 students, representing the Tidewater area, six different nations, and an alumni base of 350, many of them going to the finest colleges in the country. His athletic background includes coaching and teaching for the past 30 plus years where he has coached numerous athletes from beginner level to national caliber athletes.
Anna Cashen is our Kindergarten teacher. She graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree in Human Development Psychology from Liberty University. Previously, Anna worked as a behavior therapist for children with Autism.
Effie Glover is our first and second grade teacher at Veritas. Mrs. Glover has a B.S. from High Point University and teaching certifications from the state of North Carolina and Virginia for PK-6th grade. During the past ten years, she has spent time teaching children of various ages in North Carolina, Texas and Virginia. She has recently joined us from the Northern Virginia area where she spent the past four years teaching Primary Montessori at the Boyd School. Mrs. Glover and her husband live in Chesapeake have one son Matthew who also attends Veritas. In her free time she enjoys reading, making jewelry and spending time with her family.
Toni Lynn Barto is our third and fourth grade teacher at Veritas Christian Academy and hails from Pittsburgh, PA. She received her B.S. in education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her M.A. in communication from Regent University. Ms. Barto has taught grades one through four in private schools as well as eighth grade theatre arts and high school online English classes in public schools. She re-joined the VCA family last year after previously teaching from 2004-2007. Her desire for her students is that they acquire a body of knowledge and a developing curiosity to think more deeply about each new concept that they learn. In addition, it is Ms.Barto’s hope that her students will apply the Word of God to their curiosity.
Joan Mason is our 5th/6th grade teacher at Veritas Christian Academy. She has been in the education field for over 40 years. She received her Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education from Old Dominion University and her Masters of Arts in Christian School Administration from Regent University. She has a Math Teaching Credential for K – 7th grades, and a Middle School Science Credential for 7th – 9th grades. She has taught Algebra I & II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and Integral Calculus.
Rose Marie Bohs is our Upper School and Lower School Art teacher. An art major in high school, Mrs. Bohs attended the State University of New York at New Paltz. It was there that she was selected in her junior year to study oversees at the Instituto D’Arte in Urbino, where she studied art history, silkscreen printing, graphic design, oil painting and restoration. She exhibited her artwork there before returning to the USA to complete her BA degree in Art Education and Art History. Mrs. Bohs has taught Art classes to a wide range of ages at Good Shepherd School in Kingston, New York, Greenbrier Christian Academy, and on the mission field. She has served with Youth with a Mission (YWAM), been a guest speaker for Women’s Ministry, President of Chesapeake Chapter of Aglow International, and VA State Aglow Prayer Advisory Council, lead Beth Moore Bible Studies, a Mom’s in Touch Prayer Leader, and Room 219 Prayer Coordinator. Mother of three adult children: Charles, Melissa and Rachel and a proud Grandmother of three: Gabriel, Taylor and Cameron. Her daughter Rachel is a 2013 graduate of Veritas Christian Academy and is accepted into the nursing program at Liberty University, as a sophomore.
Christine Fernandez is the Grammar School Physical Education teacher. She lives in VB with her husband and three sons. She began teaching at Veritas Christian Academy in 2007. Christine has been active in the fitness and nutrition world for ten years. In addition to teaching Physical Education classes, she is a certified personal trainer and enjoys training people for local running events. She believes P.E. can be more than just playing games- that it is a great time to work and develop character. She stresses that fitness is important, and enjoys teaching children and adults how to treat their God-created bodies through movement and with nourishing food. Christine loves spending time with her family. They all currently take Tae kwon do at King Tiger Martial Arts in Virginia Beach where they all have their first-degree black belts. Christine also loves surfing, running, painting, playing guitar and learning other styles of martial arts.
Melinda Allen is our Upper School Latin I-V teacher. Mrs. Allen graduated from Covenant College in 1990 with a Bachelor's in Business Administration and no intention to become an educator. As her children entered school, however, her lack of intention turned into an intense investigation of the classical approach to education and an inevitable decision to home school her three children classically. Several years later, Melinda and her husband discovered Veritas Christian Academy (VCA) and immediately enrolled their three children. Since that time, Melinda has capitalized on her children's school attendance to pursue her classical interest more rigorously. She has studied Wheelock's Latin, Cambridge Latin and attended Veritas Press's Latin seminar. Currently she manages multi year Latin curriculum and teaches all Dialectic and Rhetoric Latin classes at VCA.
Jacob McCleese is the Upper School Omnibus and Logic 1 & 2 teacher. He has a B.A. in Literature and Creative Writing from Regent University and M.A. in Literature and Composition from the University of Houston. Mr. McCleese is a lover of literature and is a published poet several times over. His interests include powerlifting, reading a multitude of literary genres, writing poetry and short stories, watching movies, and engaging in the art of meaningful conversation. He loves all types of music, except country, and jazz is his favorite musical genre.
Leslie Greig is our Upper School Spanish teacher. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Pedagogy/Education from Insurgentes University in Mexico, in 2007. From 2006 to 2008, she worked as an operator for the emergency line, similar to “911" in the United States. She then taught 1st grade in a Christian school in Mexico for two years. Mrs. Greig joined her parents in coming to the United States as missionaries in April of 2011. They started a church in Dallas, Texas. While in Texas she met her husband Jon. Mrs. Greig enjoys cooking Mexican food, taking care of plants, drawing and painting. She also enjoys watching football with her husband; their favorite team is the Green Bay Packers! They also enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors, especially camping.
Lauren Maneely is our Upper School Math 8/7, Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, General and Physical Science teacher. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Cellular, Molecular, and Physiological Biology from Christopher Newport University. Mrs. Maneely is joining us for her first year teaching here at Veritas. Lauren, and her husband Josh, have a six-month-old son named Austin. Aside from spending time with her immediate family, Lauren loves to travel, especially to Nebraska to visit extended family and friends. She also enjoys documenting her family’s adventures through scrapbooking.
Danielle Strunk is our Upper and Lower School Music teacher. She achieved her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Regent University of Virginia Beach in 2016, where she was President of the Psychology Club and Vice President of Psi Chi Honor Society. It was here she embraced God’s calling of ministry on her life in various areas. Danielle has a deep love of music, having participated in marching band as a drum major, concert band, and many ensembles. She also took many music courses at her prior college, Kutztown University of Pennsylvania. She has been teaching private music lessons for several years and enjoys working with individuals in order to convey to them the importance of music, naming this as one of her greatest passions in life. She is highly involved in her church, Grace River, in Virginia Beach, as she can be seen playing and singing on worship team almost any given Sunday morning. Danielle’s motivation in life is to walk a path fully glorifying to the Father and to show His love and grace to others.
Olivia Bell is our 2nd grade language arts and math teacher. She has a B.S. in Elementary Education from Regent University in Virginia Beach. She graduated in December of 2016. At Regent she was the Volunteer Programs Coordinator on the College Student Leadership Board. Olivia has a love of learning and a love of reading.
Mengfei Li is our TOFEL teacher. He has a B.A. in Communications from Houghton College and a M.A. in Strategic Communications from Regent University. He is an International journalist for CBN.
Sam Narkinsky is our AP Calculus and AP Physics teacher. He has a B.S. in Physics and a M.A. in Mathematics from the University of Illinois. He completed his doctoral course work in mathematics at Florida State University. Mr. Narkinsky taught as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics for three years at Mars Hill College and taught at Longwood College for 5 years as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics. He then changed to a career in computer sales until returning to education 15 years ago where he has taught at several Christian High Schools, TCC and other colleges. Mr. Narkinsky has two sons, a daughter and six grandchildren. After the death of his first wife from cancer, he remarried gaining more family with two sons, a daughter, and five grandchildren. His favorite way to spend time outside of family is at church and with his Gideon friends.
Andrei Yemelianov & Natallia Yemelianova teach Dance/Kinetics to our Veritas students. Born in Ukraine, Andrei began his ballet training at the Kiev State Choreographic College at the age of ten. He completed the full curriculum with a major in Choreographic Art. Andrei was granted the qualification of “Ballet Dancer” and after graduation he danced with Donetsk Ballet, Richmond Ballet, and Jewish Theater “Mazeltov“. In 1998 Andrei began his new career as a teacher and a choreographer working at Academie de Ballet and Masterworks, and as a guest choreographer with TMCJ International Productions. His students are dancing nationwide with companies like Nashville Ballet and Ballet West as well as local dance companies such as TR Dance and VBT.
Natallia studied Ballet at Belarusian State Choreographic College. In her senior year at the Choreographic College, she was accepted as a trainee with The State Musical Comedy Theatre of Belarus. Natallia continued her Ballet training as an apprentice at The National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of Belarus. In the United States, Natallia danced with the Renaissance Ballet performing throughout the country. She also danced for Masterworks and as a guest dancer for TMCJ International Productions. Now Natallia teaches pointe technique at Academie de Ballet and Masterworks. For both Andrei and Natallia it will be their fourth year teaching Kinetics at Veritas Christian Academy.
Dale G. Rucker is our Varsity Basketball coach. Coach Rucker has 21 years of experience coaching boys’ basketball at the high school level. He coached at Thomas Edison High School for 17 years as the boys’ Varsity Basketball Coach. He is a graduate of Groveton High School in Fairfax, Virginia and attended the University of Texas where he went on to play three seasons for the University of Texas Longhorns Basketball Team. Through the years, Mr. Rucker has been involved in many aspects of the game of basketball, and has played with some of the greats, including Michael Jordan, at the nationally renowned summer Five-Star Basketball Camp, at the University of North Carolina. Dale is in his final year of earning a degree in Biblical and Theological Studies at Regent University and will be perusing a Masters in Divinity at Regent University. Coach Rucker believes that athletics can be used to teach life lessons and is excited to play a vital role in the development of young men as servant leaders for the ministry of the Lord Jesus Christ. While athletics can be a valuable tool, at Veritas, it is secondary to the athlete’s personal walk with God. Coach Rucker's goal is to emphasize the love for God while helping young men with basketball development, enthusiasm, leadership, and teamwork. Coach Rucker has one beautiful daughter whom he loves very much.
Blaine Conzatti is our Omnibus 3A & 3B teacher. He has a Bachelors of Science in Government & Public Administration from Liberty University. Mr. Conzatti had the experience of being a Research Fellow in the Family Policy Institute in Washington D.C.
