Athletic ProgramThe athletics program at Veritas Collegiate Academy seeks to use athletics as a means of developing the character of Christ in young men and women, preparing them for their future callings in life. Our focus is to instill leadership through servanthood, perseverance, loyalty, discipline, teamwork, and a practical understanding of God’s Word as it applies to the life of an athlete.
Character is distinct from both personality and gifting. Gifting is given by God, and personality is shaped by influences such as family and environment. Character, however, is forged through repeated actions that, over time, become habits and defining traits. As Webster’s 1828 Dictionary states, character is: “The peculiar qualities, impressed by nature or habit on a person, which distinguish him from others; to engrave; to inscribe.”
At Veritas Collegiate Academy, we desire our student-athletes to be known for their character, living lives that influence their generation as they faithfully serve God’s purposes—both beyond the classroom and beyond the athletic field. To this end, we recognize four specific traits through our athletic awards, which reflect the qualities we most highly prize: Perseverance, Loyalty, Leadership/Servanthood, & Most Improved in skill & Character.
